It’s safe to say the past few weeks have been pretty crazy, I went to Raglan nearly 3 weeks ago and I’m only just getting time to sit and write this post now!
When life gets crazy it’s so easy to take advantage of those around you and not spend time with people who mean the most, with Brian showcasing at the food show and I’ve had a lot on with my visa over the past few weeks I thought we both earned a treat a little weekend break just the two of us. You guys will know much I want to see and explore more of New Zealand so I booked a little weekend retreat in Raglan, about 2 hours south of Auckland.
I was surprised how expensive accommodation was during the winter months for only 2 nights, but after endless scrolling I ended up finding a cheaper but lovely accommodation; the Raglan Retreat. A cute little cabin located only a short walk from the beach and a short drive from the town, Raglan, I thought it would be a perfect winter getaway. I wasn’t disappointed, the cabin was beautiful; fitted with an mezzanine floor, log fire and a spa, it was perfect for what we wanted.
We arrived late on Friday night so needed to sort out food for Saturday and Sunday; we brought milk and cereal so we could buy lunch at 10/11am and it would see us through until the evening. I read that The Shack was a great place to eat for breakfast so that was where we headed on Saturday morning. I’d recommend it to anyone, I loved the food we had and the decor of the cafe. It was very busy when we went- thats always a good sign! so you might struggle to get a table during the peak summer season. Instead of eating out for dinner, Brian and I decided to make the most of the log fire, so we brought fish and chips and had a relaxing evening watching the stars from our balcony.
I had never heard of Raglan before so I googled a few things to do during the winter because it’s known for a surfing during the summer, I was a little worried we would be stuck watching movies all weekend. Thankfully we had the weather on our side so we were able to do lots of exploring and fun activities.
After Lunch we decided to go Kayaking, we hired our Kayaks from Raglan Backpackers, I would 100% recommend hiring your Kayaks from them, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and it only cost $25 for 1 hour for 2 Kayaks. We Kayaked to the Pancake rocks which were beautiful.
After we Kayaked we decided to drive to the Bridal Veil Waterfall, which was amazing; there are so many beautiful waterfalls around New Zealand. We finished the weekend off by watching the sunset- one thing ticked off my bucket list.
