Having been in Auckland for just over 6 months now, I think it’s time for me to share my favourite things to do around the city. I’ve mentioned before how much I felt right at home the first time I visited the city of sails, compared to London or Oxford the atmosphere is a lot more calming and relaxing, people actually walk around the city and enjoy the scenery, surprising considering everyone in London seems to be in first gear all of the time!
One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill is a 182 metre volcanic peak which is surrounded by stunning 360 views of the city. It’s a great place to visit in the morning before it gets too hot in the summer, it’s even better if you are able to get up to the top before sunrise because you can watch the sunrise over the city and it’s beautiful!
Visit the Sky Tower
This is one thing that was on my bucket list when I came to New Zealand and something I’m so glad I can cross off the list. You can visit the observation deck or grab dinner on the revolving floor with stunning 360 panoramic views of Auckland. This is 100% a must do if your ever in Auckland!
I’ve always found mini golf good fun, especially because I’m NOT good at it at all! Adventure Golf near the airport in Auckland is probably one of the best mini golf courses I’ve been too, I absolutely love the features and decorations that are placed around the two courses and I will be going back in summer!
Cornwall Park is one of my favourite places to go during the summer because you can walk for miles through woodland and paths around the base of One Tree Hill. Surrounded by farm land and views of the city, it’s the perfect place to visit with a few friends and have a BBQ in the heart of the summer!
If you really want have a once in a lifetime experience with ice cream I would urge you to visit Giapo, located on Gore Street in the heart of the city, I was taken back from the minute I walked into the shop to the minute I left by the unique experience of trying and eating ice cream!
One of my favourite things about Auckland is that you can be on a beach if you turn left or walking through a trek to visit a waterfall if you turn right. During the summer every weekend I would always try to go on a walk and visit a different waterfall every weekend, there are some beautiful places in Auckland that I would recommend that you visit!
Mount Eden is another volcano which is surrounded by 360 views of the city if you find the right places! Brian and I took dinner up to mount eden and have a picnic whilst watching the sunset and it was beautiful. I would 100% recommend you taking a stroll to the top during a nice day because the views do not disappoint!
When I first came to Auckland Takapuna beach was only a shot walk from my house so I would visit every evening in the summer before I moved over the bridge. It’s still somewhere I have visited a fair few times since moving because it is my favourite beach in Auckland, the waves are normally calm which is prefect for me as I’m not a huge lover of the sea, and the beach goes on for miles so there is always room to play beach cricket during the summer months!
Take a cruise to Waiheke
Waiheke is well known for the wine tours, you can catch a ferry from Auckland’s harbour and spend the day drinking wine and having a tour of Waiheke’s cultural vineyards. This is a must during the Wintery months!
Kelly Tarlton’s is home to the Antarctic Ice Adventure, Turtle Bay and the Shark Tunnel. I found Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium so interesting and it worth going more than once because there’s so much to see/do. Go back in time and walk through the replica of Scott’s hut in Antarctica and get up close and personal with penguins, which happen to be my favourite animal.
