Since moving house and jobs, I’ve discovered heaps of new cafe’s on my way to work, so I’ve made it my mission to visit every one to find a local cafe that I love. One place I’ve been dying to go into since moving house is Little Jimmy’s, based on Manukau Road, Epsom, it’s a cute bar and eatery that is always busy every time I walk past, so it must be good right?!
My fellow English flatmate, Adam, has also embraced the love coffee dates and brunching in New Zealand, so whenever we have the chance we always try to go to a new cafe together to see what it is about and have a general catch up. This week we decided to pop into Little Jimmy’s and grab a bite to eat and a coffee and I cannot explain the excitement I had!
After looking at the menu, it didn’t really have anything that really took my fancy, so I decided to go for a change and go for a sweet treat; girl guide biscuit strawberry cheesecake, with basil ice cream. I did swap the basil ice cream for scoop of vanilla ice cream instead because I can’t imagine basil ice cream being my cup of tea, and this was no hassle, the waitress was so helpful and didn’t seem to mind that I wanted to change parts of my order. Cheesecake is my guilty pleasure, so when I saw it on the menu it was a given that would be my choice, and it didn’t disappoint!
Adam was obviously feeling a little bit hungrier than me so went for Mashy Farms grass fed beef burger, mustard, gruyere, pancetta and curly fries, he said it tasted amazing! For $24 Adam was really surprised that it was a proper gourmet burger which was a really good size for a lunch meal. Sometimes I think it can be difficult to find somewhere that has good portion sizes of hot foods for lunch as it can either be too little or too much, but the portion sizes at Little Jimmy’s are just right as you can choose from both small and larger plates.
I loved the whole design and atmosphere of Little Jimmy’s and I will 100% go during the evening time as I’ve heard they have some pretty mean pizza’s that they only sell at night that I’d love to try. I can imagine the setting at night would make sure a cute date set too.
